Oatmeal Saves the Day |

| Starting your day off right makes all the difference in the world. For me that usually translates into a healthy breakfast and a great workout!
Vacation can present different obstacles when it comes to getting your workout in, especially if you are traveling with kids. While I wasn't able to hit the gym every day of my vacation, I was able to stay disciplined in the food choices I made. That first meal is so important to start the day off right and set the tone for the remaining meals of the day. In my opinion, there is no better choice than oatmeal to start your day when you're far from home. It's easily transportable, it doesn't expire, and it's easy to prepare. Not to mention all of the health benefits associated with oatmeal such as the lowering of bad cholesterol, maintaining healthy blood sugar levels that help to sustain energy and curb appetite, and its infusion of nutrients. All of that being said, here are three tips to help you incorporate oatmeal as your breakfast of choice on vacation. Tip #1: Prepare and Pack: All it takes is a little bit of preparation. I always have oatmeal in the house. If you don't, a quick trip to the store will solve the problem. I prefer the plain instant packets for convenience purposes. I count out the number of packets for the days I will be out of town and pack them away in my suitcase! You may want to pack some plastic spoons and some Splenda packets as well if you like to sweeten up your oatmeal. Tip #2: Don't Forget the Protein: Decide in advance what form of whey protein you want to bring with you to have with your oatmeal. This time around I brought my ready-to-drink whey protein shakes. If you are traveling by plane and want to bring ready-to-drink shakes you better be sure to pack them in the baggage that you are checking because they will take the shakes from you and throw them out at the security checkpoint (ouch!). Another option when flying would be to measure out your whey protein powder, throw it in a tupperware with the scoop, and pack it in the baggage you plan to check. You can mix it right into your prepared oatmeal. Tip #3: Who Needs a Microwave?: If you don't have access to a microwave in your hotel room, not to worry! Most hotel rooms these days come equipped with coffee pots. Just add water, forget the coffee, and press the start button. In less than a minute or two you will have the hot water necessary to prepare your oatmeal. Don't forget to pack some protein bars and some apples for snacks while you're away too. This will help to keep you on track. And remember, don't be afraid to order your way while dining at restaurants. The customer is always right! Health & Success, Alison
