How to File an Insurance Claim For Fibromyalgia
by Tim Leroy
There are some very important things that you want to remember when filing an insurance claim for fibromyalgia.

When you file a claim for something like a broken arm or an injury that is obvious there usually is not a problem. But when you have something like fibromyalgia were the symptoms are less obvious but still very real it can be an up hill battle with your insurance company.

You should make sure that your forms are filled out so that there is no misunderstanding as to your condition.

Go over the forms with your doctor when they are being filled out. Do not let them use words like "may have" or "might have" or that the "cause is unknown."

These are terms that an insurance company can use against you to deny your claim on the grounds that the doctor is not saying for sure that you have fibromyalgia.

Because fibromyalgia is so hard to diagnose that some doctors are hesitant about stating that you do in fact have fibromyalgia.

It is very important that they give you a definite diagnosis.

If your doctor will not do this then you should be get referral to an other doctor that is a specialist in this field such as a Rheumatalogst that can give you the proper test to diagnose fibromyalgia.

At fibrohope.org you can get information on how to work with your doctor and what questions to ask, it can be very helpful

Fibromyalgia has many different symptoms and effects different people in different ways. The symptoms can flare up and become almost unbearable and sometimes go into an almost remission stage and then flare up again.

I've personally seen someone go from being in so much pain that they could barely get out of bed to feeling better to the point where they could actually ride a bike back and forth to work. Only to have their condition return to the point where they are unable to get out of bed let alone go to work.

It is also very important that all forms are sent as soon as possible and with as much information as possible.

If you have insurance on your mortgage or loans make sure you file for those claims at the same time and with the same care that you take with the disability insurance. It will probably be different insurance company, but all the same rules will apply.

An other very important point that you want to look at is the return to work date. You do not want the doctor to put date unknown this will cause you problems.

It is best to have a date that is as far out as possible and if you are ready to return to work before that, the date can be changed and your doctor can write you a return to work letter.

It is also very important that you copy all forms that you send in to an insurance company. If the insurance company claims that they did not get a certain form or letter, you can simply send them another one.

Remember that you paid a premium so you could have insurance to cover you in case you were unable to work. Don't let something as simple as a wording or a late filing give your insurance company reason to deny your claim. It is your right to collect what is rightly yours'. Don't think that the the insurance company is doing you a favor by paying your claim , they are obligated to pay you.

I have a loved one with Fibromyalgia and have gone through the process of filing a claim and have made some of the mistakes that I talk about in this article. Their claim has still not been approved.

Best of Luck
