The Effects of Smoking - How Smoking Affects Your Body
by Joe White
The effects of smoking on your body are profound and number many. It doesn't just kill you, it slowly degrades your entire body. Let's take a closer look.

The Face

Smoking gives you "crow's feet" which are the deep wrinkles around the eyes, well before you should have started to get them. It damages the blood vessels and causes pale, purple or even yellow cheeks. Wrinkles around the side of the mouth are also common.

The Mouth

Smoking stains the teeth yellow and brown. It also contributes to tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath.

Smokers are also at higher risk of developing mouth cancers.

The Lungs

Tobacco smoke affects the lining of the lungs and causes irritation and smoker's cough. You are more likely to get respiratory infections and viruses such as the flu. Smokers are 10 times more likely than non-smokers to get emphysema and lung cancer.

The Heart And The Circulatory System

Smokers have higher deposits of cholesterol in the arteries and blood system. Smoking also gives you higher blood pressure. The biggest cause of death from smoking is a heart attack.

Body's Organs

The entire body is more at risk of getting cancer. I'm talking here about cancer of the esophagus, bladder, liver, kidneys, stomach, pancreas and any other part of the body that you can think of.

For Men

In men, smoking commonly leads to erectile dysfunction in middle age. Do you really want to be reliant on a pill to prepare you for making love?
